Body type

Classic hourglass shape
Tops--open necklines, slim waist. Bottoms--low-rise pants, pencil skirts. Wrap dresses.

Large chest, hourglass shape
Tops--long in length, 3/4-length or long sleeves, V or scoopnecks, slim at waist. Bottoms--wide legs, pencil skirts. Underwear--bra should push forward and up. Avoid--double-breasted jackets, boxy cuts, tapered pants, pockets at side.

Classic pear shape
Tops--fitted, crew, scoop or v-necks. Bottoms--low-waisted, bootleg, wear long with heels, straight A-line skirts, dark solids or very small patterns. Bold jewelry draws the eye upward. Avoid--double-breasted jackets.

Small chest, slim, pear shape
Tops--layers, looser-fitting, jersey, 3/4-length or sleeveless, round neckline, patterns to create focus. Bottoms--hipslung and bootleg pants, A-line or fluted skirts.

Classic apple shape


Classic inverted triangle
Tops--darker colors, less embellishment. Bottoms--you're among the few who can wear fuller bottoms in prints and bright colors, and skirts in just about any type. Keep accessories close to the face. Avoid shoulder pads like the plague!

Classic ruler
Tops--fitted, most necklines look good on you. Bottoms--Low-rise or natural waist pants, most skirts look good on you--choose your favorite! Avoid--super low-rise pants.

Short neck
Scoopnecks, v-necks.

Narrow shoulders


Broad shoulders
Tops--shoulder seam should end at or before the shoulder, not below, with sleeveless tops, make sure the straps are not too close to the neck, wide necklines, scoopnecks, v-necks, and cowlnecks are good. Avoid. Necklines are important. Wide necklines, scoopnecks, and cowlnecks are good. Boatnecks and turtlenecks depend on the wearer. Avoid--shoulder pads, horizontal stripes, tight crewnecks, and some squarenecks.

Large chest
Open-collared shirts and v-necks. Avoid tight crewnecks and turtlenecks.

Small chest
Boatneck and jewel-necks.

Round stomach
Tops--long, wrap, empire or shirred waist, fitted jackets.

Wide butt
Tops--draw attention away from your bottom by wearing pretty patterned or colored tops. Bottoms--Low-waist, wide-leg, looser pants in dark solids.

Slim hips
Most skirt types will look great, though circle skirts may be most flattering. Choose wisely with pencil skirts.

Wide hips


Short legs
Straight or bootcut pants worn long with high heels. Avoid long tunics, belts, cropped pants and super low-rise pants.



Face shape


Round
Necklines--scoop, V, square, mock turlenecks. Accessories--long necklaces, square, oblong, rectangular earrings in dangling, elongated, and angular designs.

Heart
Necklines--boat, jewel. Accessories--short necklaces, dangling earrings that are wider at bottom than on top.

Square
Accessories--short necklaces.

Long
Turtlenecks and jewel-necks.

Oval
This is the best shape--you can wear pretty much anything!
